Disabled man forced to climb stairs at LRT station as facilities have not been repaired since 2021

RECENTLYa Twitter user shared a photo showing a man on crutches limping up the stairs of the Ampang Park LRT.

According to reports, the LRT Ampang Park escalator and elevator have been out of order since last year.

Following the netizen’s complaint, RapidKL claimed that the lift at the LRT station is still under maintenance, so customers should seek assistance from the counter staff. “The staff can help,” they replied.

RapidKL’s response reportedly made the situation worse, with netizens flooding the comment section with criticism.

According to Trends of MalaysiaDisability advocacy group (OKU) SIUMAN criticized RapidKL and stressed that the disabled community does not need assistance, but needs access.

“Access is a right. It is disgusting how our society continues to spit ‘santuni OKU’ (compassion for the OKUs), but it does nothing to enforce universal access, “the advocacy group tweeted last night.”

“Maybe the able-bodied people don’t understand this, but it’s very humbling that the disabled have to be relieved when there is no access.”
