Arteta says the Spurs clash is more “exciting” as Arsenal boss

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are looking forward to kicking off the North London derby against Tottenham on Thursday, in a match that gives them the chance to seal a spot in next season’s Uefa Champions League.

Arsenal will guarantee a return to the Champions League if they manage to beat Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Even Antonio Conte’s team still has little chance of finishing in the top four of the English Premier League and making it to the Champions League.

“The message is clear, if we win against them (Spurs) we will be in the Champions League next season, so I don’t think we need any motivation,” Arteta said this week.

“We will play and do it as we always do. (I think it’s) the most exciting (game I played as Arsenal manager). We played other finals against Chelsea and Liverpool in the FA Cup and Community Shield. This is an opportunity to achieve one of our goals.

“We can’t wait to play, this is the work we have done all season to try and earn it (a Champions League sport).
