As all eyes focused on Sam Reid and his injury, Hayden McLean looks set to earn a call up with McDonald the man to make way.
Nine news reporter Braden Ingram first reported the heartbreaking news for the Swans youngster.
McDonald however could still be named in the side as either a replacement for Red should he not be deemed fit to play or as the medical substitute.
“With Hayden McLean set for an extraordinary Grand Final call up … I’m hearing that Logan McDonald is looming as the Swans unlucky man. If dropped he could still earn reprieve as medical sub or if Sam Reid doesn’t come up,” Ingram wrote.
McDonald was picked up by the Swans in the 2020 Draft and played in a total of 17 games this season.
Geelong fans are nervously awaiting the team announcement with young star Max Holmes facing a race against the clock to prove his fitness.
Holmes was prolific during the preliminary final, but in the third quarter appeared to have pulled a hamstring.
He was subbed out of the game and looked certain to miss Saturday’s Grand Final, but remains in the frame for selection.
Teams will be announced at 6:20pm (AEST).
