LYNN – Husband and wife died after an apparent homicide-suicide in Lynn, the Essex District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Officers responded to a house on Mudge Street at around 1:20 pm on Thursday. A man and a woman were declared dead on the spot.
According to the DA, Jessie Mitchell, 46, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Yajaira Suarez, 31, was shot dead.
“He received a restraining order about a month ago and the police came and escorted him out. Yesterday he showed up and it happened,” said Aury Suarez, Yajaira’s sister.
The two were former Marines who were going through a tense battle over the separation and custody of their two children. In Suarez’s own paper she told police that she was afraid of Mitchell and the multiple weapons he possessed.
Her family is heartbroken, but they don’t want people to remember this young mother for her tragic death.
“He had a lot of friends. Everyone is very devastated by this news. They can’t believe it,” said Aury Suarez. “She saw Him coming. Whenever they argued, he would tell me that he felt he wasn’t safe.”
She is described as a strong woman and a loving mother who fought to the end for her children.
Lynn Police, State Police, and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
